Live betting may be the wave of the sports betting future. Who among us hasn't forgotten to get a bet in before the game starts, then watched in agony as your sure winner in fact goes on to an easy victory, while your bank account sits unaffected? Live betting is the answer to many a sports bettor's dream, and you can be one of them, if you know how to take advantage of it.
Live Betting, Advanced: Have a Plan.
Don't just wait to see who scores first and jump online to bet on that team. The line will have been adjusted so that this will not give you an advantage, and in fact, if the favorite is a second half team, it may put you at a big disadvantage. If you can, try to think in advance how changes in the game will affect the line and whether that will favor you or not. Plan in advance what kind of odds or line shift you would need to see after a score that would make betting one side or the other worthwhile.
Just as with regular sports betting, preparation is key. Actually, preparation is the key to success almost anywhere: whether you bet on soccer online, play online slots or make your predictions on horse racing - getting prepared and calculating your odds might greatly increase your chances of being a winner.
Live Betting, Advanced: Don't Do the House's Work for Them
A lot of people think they can "beat" the live betting site by simply grabbing the other side of a bet every time there is a line shift. In fact, this is playing right into the site's hands. They want even money on both sides so that they can collect commissions. Even though this strategy may make you lose smaller amounts, it will also make you a consistent loser. You should usually pick one side and stick with it, with one exception, listed below.
Live Betting, Advanced: When to Lock In
There are times when the odds shift may be so extreme that you are able to lock in a significant amount of money. For example, let's say, in a fit of insanity, you bet $1000 on the Detroit Lions to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers at odds of 15-to-1. Shockingly, the Lions score 17 unanswered points in the first half and the live betting line has shifted to 5-to-2 in favor of Pittsburgh. You now have an opportunity to lock in a win. Pittsburgh could very reasonably come back to win this game. If you bet $5000 on Pittsburgh now and they come back and win, you will lose $1100 on your earlier bet (taking commission into account), but win $2000 for Pittsburgh, winning $900. If Detroit holds on, you'll lose $5500 on the Pittsburgh bet, but win $15000 on Detroit, and you'll walk away with $9500. If $900 is a significant amount of money for you (and if it is, you really were insane to bet $1000 on Detroit), you might consider locking in the $900 win.
