Torres had to leave the pitch half way through Spain's friendly with France last night. The 23-year old looked in some pain when he was substituted. Torres still wanted to start against chelsea in the premiership clash. Liverpool boss benitez 100% rules the Striker out.
"I preferred not to risk it. I demanded the change. I will have medical tests but I intend to play on Sunday against Chelsea," Torres said in the immediate aftermath of the Malaga friendly.
Torres has been Liverpool's best player this season netting 12 goals in the League. It will be a massive loss for the reds. Who are looking to take 4th spot and qualify for next seasons champions league.
Injuries like this can last for 2-3 weeks, and the liverpool boss seems very concerned.
"The news we have on Torres is that it is a hamstring injury and we have lost him. I need to talk to the doctor but I think he will miss this game. Normally it is a week when a player goes off like this. It is a big problem for us."
Torres is not the only injury problem Benitez faces. The likes of, Agger, Voronin, Arbeloa and Fabio Aurelio will all miss this weekends crunch game.
Liverpool are hoping Mascherano will be ready to start. Liverpool are currently 5th in the Premiership and are 17 points behind the leaders Arsenal.
