Richards whose current deal was due to end in 2010 had previously been descusing the possibility of an extension. When speaking to the press last week the City star said that he was not worried about and delay to signing a new contract, and now to the delight of City fans he has signed a new contract to stay with City till 2013 - a 3 year extension to his current deal.
Richards commented "I've always wanted to be at this club and signing this five-and-a-half-year contract shows that,"
It puts all the speculation to bed. I can concentrate on the rest of the season now.
"The manager has been great. We're going to fight for Europe, which is a massive achievement.
"I try to put in 100% every match and hopefully I can keep playing that way and playing for my country as well."
City head coach Sven Goran Eriksson added ''This is fantastic news, It shows we are building for the future by securing one of our most talented players on a longest-term contract."
