Owne who has bagged 40 goals from 88 internationals was snubbed by Fabio Capello midweek and only got a place on the subs bench. But Ian Wright says that Owen should not take it personal and expects him to return to the starting eleven sooner rather than later.
Wright says "What's happened in the past is that managers have pandered to certain players' needs.
"But we've got to realise the whole point of these friendlies is to find out how less experienced or untried players can perform.
"Why does Fabio Capello need to see Michael Owen in a friendly?
"It's not a big deal because Capello knows exactly what Michael can do.
"If Michael's performing for his club and scoring, he'll be in there on merit when it matters.
"You'd like to think his record would get him the nod ahead of the other strikers, but he can't rely on that alone anymore."
