Next England Captain ?
England football news: John Terry backed for England captaincy
Terry favorite for England armband.
Ex-England coach Steve McClaren is amongst a number of people who think the next England captain should be John Terry instead of current Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

With Terry currently out Gerrard will almost certainly lead the England team out against Switzerland in next weeks friendly match.

However ex England boss McClaren thinks the armband should ultimately lie with Terry as he relishes being a leader on the pitch and also given the armband McClaren believes would enhance the Chelsea captains performance.
When speaking to the News of the World McClaren commented "The bottom line is that Steven Gerrard doesn't need to be England captain, but you get an extra 10 per cent from JT if he's in charge,"
The former England boss then went on to say '' I'm not saying John is less of a player when he's not captain but, since he was a kid, he's been used to being a leader on the pitch.

"Stevie is similar to Beckham in that he leads by what he does on the pitch.

"You think back to what Beck's did against Greece in the last 20 minute of the World Cup qualifier in 2001, which culminated in his free-kick goal which took us to the Far East.

"Then you compare that to Stevie's performance away against Andorra last March in a Euro 2008 qualifier. Both those displays were very similar. They lifted the team by taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

"John is totally different. He gives orders, he organises people and he'll put his body on the line every time."
